Tokio Hotel is the only band, from the German-speaking countries, on the „Almost Alice” album, which realised at the same time as the new movie hit „Alice in Wonderland” from the master director, Tim Burton. In addition, the song „Strange”, which Tokio Hotel recorded with Kerli, „Almost Alice” contains 15 other songs inspired by Lewis Carroll. We made an interview with the guys.

Trailer Seite.de: How did you get the idea to work on „Strange” with Kerli and how was to contribute with a song for a film like „Alice in Wonderland” is to ever come to pass?

BILL: The song’s name is „Strange” and the main line is „Strange, in your perfect world”. This is fits very well to the whole film and it was actually relatively quickly clear that we wanted to do it. Then everything worked perfectly. Above all we needed a female voice. For us, it was not important that however she succesful. We wanted just a special voice. This was the very first time when we let someone else to sing with us. This worked reasonably well and in the studio everything went relatively quickly.

Trailer Seite.de: How did you get inspired you to your song?

BILL: Above all it is about our lives a bit. Of course, our life is very „strange”. In so far, you simply never been properly related, and somehow you feel a little bit different. It would be similar, if a girl would let close to me, she would feel herself exactly „strange”, like me. That’s to say, if you step into through the door, and walk into this Tokio Hotel, in principle, you can’t get out quickly. That was a bit the idea behind it, and that’s fit in that case perfectly to the Wonderland.

Trailer Seite.de: Did you read the book, „Alice in Wonderland”? If yes, when was it?

BILL: We, Tom and me, saw the film!
TOM: Yes, exactly! We saw the cartoon earlier. And I think we also had the books, too. I have to say, somehow I found really scary this. I think that it remained in this film. You can find some characters total sweet – and then there are some others that are really creepy.

Trailer Seite.de: What did you like the most in the film? Which is your favourite character?

TOM: My favourite characters are the Bloodhound and the March Hare – the one with the floppy ears. I liked them!
BILL: Yes, I have to agree with Tom. And of course I think the Red Queen is really great. She is super obsessed. This is a really great actress. Nobody can’t play it better. This is truly incredible. I had fun when we saw them. And Johnny Depp of course great, too. So The Hatter is a total super role.
TOM: How did you find the Red Queen?
GEORG: I think the Dog was the sweetest.
TOM: Me, too. And you?
GUSTAV: The Rabbit.

Trailer Seite.de: What was worth for you in the film? [not sure]

BILL: It is worth to see, because great actresses and actors made it. It is filmed in a very great way. I think it is the mixture of the fantasy world and the reality. This is a film that anyone can find good. Then you can sit inside in any case, since it is well maintained properly and that’s a cute story anyway, everyone have known it yet. Tim Burton is an absolute dream. I think it is a great movie and the soundtrack is also very good. You must have the soundtrack in any case.
TOM: In 3D, of course it is an experience.

BILL: He is definitely a really great person. All of his films have a total definite spirit. And of course Johnny Depp, who have played in thousands films, is there. Yes, I think you can notice right away, that it is a Tim Burton film.

Trailer Seite.de: Johnny Depp belongs to Tim Burton’s regular cast, but how do you like him as the Mad Hatter’s role?

BILL: Well, I think, this is the best role. He is a kind of psychopath, whom is really fond of by the other indeed, and also you take to love in the course of the film. In any case, a lovable psychopath. This is a kind of role, that I would have gladly accepted.

Trailer Seite.de: Comment avez vous eu l’idée de travailler sur la chanson ”Strange” avec Kerli et c’était comment de contribuer avec une chanson pour un film comme ”Alice au pays des merveilles”?

BILL: Le nom de la chanson est ”Strange” et le thème principal est ”Étrange dans ton monde parfait”. Ceci s’intègre très bien au film et ça a été rapidement clair que c’était ça qu’on voulait faire. Ensuite, tout fonctionnait parfaitement. Par contre, on avait besoin d’une voix féminine. Pour nous, c’était pas important qu’elle soit connue ou non. On voulait juste une voix spéciale. C’était la première fois qu’on a laissé quelqu’un chanter avec nous. Ceci a bien fonctionné et dans le studio, tout s’est passé assez rapidement.

Trailer Seite.de: Comment avez vous été inspirés pour faire votre chanson?

BILL: Par dessus tout, c’est un peu à propos de nos vies. Évidemment, nos vies sont très ”étranges”. C’est comme si depuis longtemps, tu n’a jamais été véritablement lié, et d’une manière ou d’une autre, tu te sens un peu différent. Ce serait similaire si une fille se rapprochait de moi, elle se sentirait ”étrange”, comme moi. C’est comme pour dire que si tu ouvre la porte et entre dans le monde de Tokio Hotel, en principe, on ne s’en sort pas rapidement. C’était un peu l’idée derrière la chanson, et dans ce cas, ça marche bien avec l’idée du pays des merveilles.

Trailer Seite.de: Avez vous lu le livre ”Alice au pays des merveilles”? Si oui, c’était quand?

BILL: Moi et Tom avons vu le film!
TOM: Oui, exactement! On a vu la version animée tantôt. Je crois aussi qu’on avait les livres. Je doit dire que j’ai trouvé ça terrifiant d’une manière. Je crois que cet élément est resté dans le film. On peut trouver des personnages complètement mignons – et puis il y en a d’autres très terrifiants.

Trailer Seite. de: Qu’avez vous le plus aimé dans le film? Qui est votre personnage préféré?

TOM: Mes personnages préférés sont le chien ”St-Hubert” et le lièvre de mars – celui avec les longues oreilles. Je les ai aimés!
BILL: Oui je suis d’accord avec Tom. Et bien sûr je crois que la reine rouge est merveilleuse. Elle est super obsédée. C’est une vraiment bonne actrice. Personne ne peut la jouer mieux. C’est vraiment incroyable. J’ai eu du plaisir quand on les a vus. Et bien sûr Johnny Depp est très bon aussi. Alors le chapelier est vraiment un rôle fou.
TOM: Comment tu trouvais la reine rouge?
GEORG: Je trouve que le chien était le plus mignon.
TOM: Moi aussi. Et toi?
GUSTAV: Le lapin.

Trailer Seite.de: Qu-est-ce qui a valu la peine de voir le film pour vous?

BILL: Ça vaut la peine de le voir car de très bons acteurs et actrices l’ont fait. Ça a été très bien filmé. Je crois que c’est le mélange du monde merveilleux et la réalité. C’est un film que n’importe qui peut trouver bon. On reste collés à nos sièges puisque l’histoire est bien maintenue et elle est mignonne de toute façon, tout le monde devrait la connaître. Tim Burton est un rêve absolu. Je crois que c’est un très bon film et les chansons sont aussi très bonnes. Vous devriez au moins avoir les chansons.
TOM: En 3D, bien sûr c’est une expérience.

Trailer Seite.de: Êtes vous des fans de Tim Burton?

BILL: Il est sans aucun doute une très bonne personne. Tout ses films ont un esprit définitif. Et bien sûr, Johnny Depp, qui a joué dans mille films, est là. Oui, je crois qu’on le remarque tout suite en partant, que c’est un film de Tim Burton.

Trailer Site.de: Johnny Depp fait partie des acteurs réguliers de Tim Burton, mais comment l’avez vous aimé dans le rôle du Chapelier fou?

BILL: Et bien, je crois que c’est le meilleur rôle. Il est un peu comme un psychopathe, qui est très content d’avoir les autres bien sûr, et on apprend à l’aimer dans le film. Dans tout les cas, un psychopathe aimable. C’est le genre de rôle que j’aurais accepté avec joie.
